Igor Terekhov has long assured that Kharkiv will be rebuilt, made more modern and more technological. And at the UN Mayors’ Forum in Geneva, he turned to the British architect with a request to help with the reconstruction of the city. For the first time, Foster reveals the details of the master plan at a meeting with Igor Terekhov. “Heritage”, “industry”, “housing”, “scientific quarter” and “rivers” are the main parts of the project. Everything was developed together with the best Kharkiv architects and specialists.
As Foster notes, during the reconstruction, all the historical features of the city will be preserved, but the best world projects that have been tested by time will also be implemented. But the primary task is the reconstruction of housing. The architect notes: a survey was conducted among the townspeople to understand what they would like to change in their homes. More than 16 thousand people have already participated in the survey. Norman Foster recalls: back in April, the mayor asked to focus on science and its dissemination. Then they thought about creating a facility where it would actively develop. In the end, they decided that the best place for a science park was the territory of the Barabashovo market.
In addition, there are plans to turn the 6-kilometer strip between the Kharkiv and Nemyshlya rivers into an ecological, pedestrian and bicycle space.
How do you like this idea of rebuilding Kharkiv?
