Public assessment of the work of courts in electoral disputes in 2015
Election campaigns in Ukraine are accompanied by numerous court disputes, which often reveal shortcomings in the work of the judicial system and affect public trust in justice.
The Institute for Applied Humanitarian Studies, with the support of the USAID Fair Justice Project, conducted a public and expert assessment of the activities of the courts during the consideration of electoral disputes in the 2015 local elections. The study covered three components: the quality of court decisions, the organization of court proceedings, and the satisfaction of participants in the process.
During the roundtable, representatives of the Supreme Judicial Council of Ukraine, the National School of Judges, MPs, and experts discussed the results. The average rating of the courts' work was 4 out of 5 points, but some issues need clarification to increase the effectiveness of the protection of electoral rights.
On June 30, a presentation of the Institute’s new research and report will be held in Kyiv, covering the analysis of court decisions in three election processes: the 2012 parliamentary elections, the 2014 presidential elections, and the 2015 local elections. It is expected that the research results will contribute to increasing transparency, efficiency, and trust in the judicial system.
